A rural environment where agriculture has integrated perfectly with nature, the natural landscape has been preserved and is waiting to be valued and discovered. This unique and fascinating area where the river Stella passes also has thousands of years of history, much of which is still to be unveiled.
The river Stella, Anaxum in Latin, is one of the most important (spring water) rivers in Friuli, in the past represented an important transport and connection link between Friuli land and the sea. The natural and unpaved road that is next to the farmhouse, now converted and used as cycle path, was once the main connection by land to the fortresses (Ariis, Flambruzzo etc). A strategic and important path along the Stella River for the control of the Friulian territory.
As evidence of the importance of the river Stella as a way of communication between the hinterland and the sea, many archaeological finds from the Bronze Age have been found and a wooden boat that dates back to the beginning of the first century A.D. remained particularly well preserved despite its 2,000 years.
You can reach castles and villas in easy walking distance around Parco dello Stella including Flambruzzo castle and Villa Ottelio-Savorgnan all with beautiful settings. For the more romantic, you can retrace the streets of Lucina Savorgnan and Luigi Da Porto that are now universally certified as inspiration for the myth of Romeo and Juliet.
A few steps away you can enter the Risorgive Park, a territory formed by the vast extensions of wetland that survived the reclamation and the consequent reduction of the natural habitats that have affected the Friuli plain during the last century; this offers reminiscent landscapes and is of considerable interest from a nature, fauna and geological point of view.
You can reach the most popular tourist destinations of the Friulian land in just a few minutes by car, from the classical seaside resorts such as Lignano and Bibione to the cities of Udine and Trieste, the food and wine routes of Cividale del Friuli and San Daniele del Friuli and every other wonder of our territory rich in biodiversity and typicality.
We will welcome you and recommend the best destinations, itineraries sharing our experience to surprise you with the beauty of our territory.
